Summer on the South Coast usually means employment rising in the construction industry as well as the tourism-dependent leisure and hospitality sectors. Unemployment rates typically continue to fall from their winter peaks. But this deep recession has continued to push those rates to levels not seen since late 1984 on the South Coast.
