It's summer in the Morrow-Umatilla region and the weather is hot and dry. Irrigated fields and modern farming methods harness the sun's power to turn out a variety of crops and forage for cattle and dairy producers. Unemployment bottoms out in late summer and early fall as harvests are under way. Food manufacturing adds hundreds of seasonal jobs in June, reaches its peak around July and drops off in late fall.
