Recent trends in Northeast Oregon have steadied following a very harsh recession.

In Baker County, 2009's annual average unemployment rate of 10.1 percent was the highest since 1996. Jobless rate statistics through the first five months of 2010 trended nearly one full percentage point lower than in the corresponding period of 2009. In 2009, Baker County's nonfarm job count dipped to its lowest level since 2005.
