Employment projections recently released by the Oregon Employment Department for the period 2017 to 2027 show private education and health services as the top private industry for growth and replacement openings. This growth isn’t concentrated in occupations specific to health care or education. Registered nurses and nursing assistants are the only health occupations in the top 20 for growth, replacement, or total openings. Teaching assistants is the only education occupation that makes the list.
The industry staffing patterns show why private education and health services rates as the top private industry for employment change. Service occupations like food preparation and serving related, building and grounds cleaning services, and personal care services all work in the health services industry and appear in the top 20 in terms of growth, replacement, and total openings.
