Recently released 2016 American Community Survey data from the U.S. Census Bureau revealed new commuting patterns within Washington County. Between 2011 and 2016, the amount of Washington County residents working within the county instead of outside the county increased from 68 percent to 71 percent. The average travel time to work also increased from 23.7 minutes to 25 minutes over the past five years, reflecting effects of increased traffic in the Portland metro region, as well as the increased use of public transportation.
