Below Average Population Growth for Morrow and Umatilla Counties in 2016

Portland State University’s Population Research Center recently released 2016 population estimates for Oregon and its counties and cities. Oregon’s population rose by 1.6 percent from 2015 to 2016, climbing by 62,505 to total 4,076,350. Deschutes County led Oregon counties, growing by 3.5 percent, while neighboring Crook County ranked second, growing by 2.3 percent.
Morrow County’s population rose by 115 residents from 2015 to 2016 to total 11,745. With a population gain of just 1.0 percent, Morrow County’s growth ranked 20th in Oregon, just behind Lane County.

Umatilla County’s population grew by just 0.9 percent from 2015 to 2016, rising by 725 residents. Although Umatilla County’s population growth ranked quite low, in 21st position, the reality was that 16 of Oregon’s 36 counties experienced growth below 1.0 percent.

With 79,880 residents in 2016, Umatilla County ranked as Oregon’s 13th largest county, while Morrow County, with 11,745 residents ranked 29th.
