Eastern Oregon Projected to Add 5,200 Jobs by 2029

According to the Oregon Employment Department’s 2019-2029 Industry Employment Projections, the Eastern Oregon area (Baker, Grant, Harney, Malheur, Morrow, Umatilla, Union, and Wallowa counties) is projected to grow from 81,200 jobs to 86,400 jobs by 2029, a growth rate of 6 percent. The industries projected to add the most jobs are private education and health services; government; natural resources and mining; and trade, transportation, and utilities. No major private industry sectors are projected to decline, though financial activities is expected to remain essentially the same. Government job growth is projected in local sectors while federal government jobs are projected to decline and state government is expected to be essentially unchanged.
Construction to Grow Fastest

With a growth rate of 16 percent, the construction sector ijected to grow at the fastest rate by 2029 in Eastern Oregon. Information (+14%), professional and business services (+11%), private education and health services (+10%), and self-employment (+8%) round out the top five fastest growing sectors in Eastern Oregon.
