Eastern Oregon Projected to Add 7,700 Jobs by 2027

According to the Oregon Employment Department’s 2017-2027 Industry Employment Projections, the Eastern Oregon area (Baker, Grant, Harney, Malheur, Morrow, Umatilla, Union, and Wallowa counties) is projected to grow from 78,400 jobs to 86,100 jobs by 2027, a growth rate of 10 percent. The industries projected to add the most jobs are private education and health services; natural resources and mining; and trade, transportation, and utilities. No major private industry sectors are projected to decline. Government job growth is projected in local and state sectors while federal government jobs are projected to be essentially unchanged.
Construction Industry to Grow Fastest

With a growth rate of 20 percent, the construction sector is projected to grow at the fastest rate by 2027 in Eastern Oregon. Private education and health services (+14%), leisure and hospitality (+13%), natural resources and mining (+13%), and self-employment (+13%) round out the top five fastest growing sectors in Eastern Oregon.
