During the last 15 years, the health care and social assistance industry in Clackamas County added 7,606 jobs and grew by 64 percent. Health care employment growth in Multnomah and Washington counties was at 35 percent and 78 percent, respectively. All three counties combined have added more than 35,000 health care jobs since 2001.

With the exception of ambulatory health care (doctor's offices) Clackamas County saw higher levels of job growth in the hospital, nursing and residential care and social assistance sectors than either Multnomah or Washington counties.

In the Portland tri-county area, occupations in health care are expected to add 12,845 new jobs and have 15,300 replacement openings from 2014 to 2024.

The occupations with the most openings include registered nurses, nursing assistants, medical assistants, physicians, home health aides, dental assistants, pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, medical records technicians, and physical therapists.
