Northwest Oregon’s Top Private IndustriesJune 5, 2017 Annual payroll information is in for 2016 for Northwest Oregon businesses and you may be wondering, how does your industry measure up in the grand scheme of things? Here’s the snapshot:
In Benton County, the private-sector industry with the largest number employed was education and health services with nearly 6,300 employed. This industry also accounted for the largest total payroll with over $340 million. Manufacturing had the highest average annual wage, at $78,511. The sector with the largest number of business establishments was “other services” which includes a large variety of businesses performing repair and maintenance services, personal care and laundry services, membership organizations and associations.
Clatsop County’s private-sector employment leader was leisure and hospitality which includes accommodations, food services, arts, entertainment and recreation businesses and employed more than 4,300. The industry with the largest total payroll was education and health services with over $110 million in total payroll. Manufacturing led the average wages within the county with an average wage of $56,027. The largest number of businesses was in the trade, transportation, and utilities industry which includes retail and wholesale trade businesses.
In Columbia County, trade, transportation, and utilities employed the largest number with over 2,100 jobs. Manufacturing provided the largest private-sector payroll ($90,814,764) and the highest average wage ($53,495) in 2016. The largest number of business units was in the “other services” sector with 290 businesses.
Leisure and hospitality led the private-sector employment in Lincoln County with more than 4,300 jobs in 2016. The county’s largest private industry payroll came from the education and health services industry which includes private education and health care providers. This sector had more than $93 million in payroll. Average wages were highest in the manufacturing sector at $57,416. Trade, transportation, and utilities had the largest number of business establishments with 354 county-wide.
Tillamook County’s largest employing private industry was leisure and hospitality in 2016 with over 1,400 jobs. The industry with the largest total payroll was manufacturing with more than $68 million in total payroll. Average wages were highest for workers in the education and health services sector at $49,048. And like Benton and Columbia counties, the industry with the largest number of business establishments was “other services” with 166 businesses county-wide.
