Clackamas County’s population reached 413,000 in 2017 and over four-fifths (83.6%) of the county’s population growth between 2010 and 2017 can be attributed to net migration.

Clackamas County experienced a much higher rate of net migration compared with Multnomah and Washington counties at 61.5 percent and 51.6 percent, respectively. On the other hand, the natural increase in population (births minus deaths) contributed only 16.4 percent of population growth in Clackamas County compared with 38.5 percent in Multnomah and 48.4 percent in Washington counties during this time period.
Where Are People Moving From?

The American Community Survey estimated that 14.6 percent or 58,896 of the population in Clackamas County moved from their present place of residence in 2016. The largest portion of this population (53%) moved from somewhere within Clackamas County and nearly one-third (31%) moved from a different county in the state.
Significantly fewer people moved into the county from a different state (13%) or moved from abroad (3%) in 2016.
