Registered Nurses Heads List of Jobs with Most Vacancies in Eastern Oregon

According to the most recent Oregon Employment Department Job Vacancy Survey of private employers, the occupation with the most job openings in Eastern Oregon (includes Baker, Grant, Harney, Malheur, Morrow, Umatilla, Union, and Wallowa counties) in 2017 was registered nurses with 240 vacancies, or 10 percent of the total vacancies within the region. Registered nurses assess patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. They administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients and may advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management. The average hourly wage for this occupation within the region is $36.75. The typical entry level education for this occupation is a bachelor's degree and licensing or registration is required.
Crop, nursery, and greenhouse farmworkers and laborers had the next highest number of vacancies within the region, also accounting for about 10 percent of openings, followed by heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers; laborers and freight, stock, and material movers; and nursing assistants to round out the top five.
