Residential Building Permits in the Portland Metro RegionAugust 5, 2016 The fastest industry in the Portland region for job growth is construction with 5,000 new jobs created in the region in the last 12 months.
Looking at the residential building permit data for 2016 so far, the region is on track to reach more than 14,000 building permits this year. That would be the largest amount of residential construction in the region since 2006 during the housing boom.
This construction growth is being led by single family construction which is up 13 percent in 2016 from where it was last year. Despite this surge in single home construction, this category is still well below its historical levels.
Multi-family construction (apartment and condo projects) remains at historically high levels in the region.
