Oregon’s total employment will grow 16% (317,600 jobs) between 2020 and 2030 according to the latest projections from the Oregon Employment Department. These projections are a historically high job growth rate encompassing the COVID-19 pandemic and the recession. Many job openings are expected due to the need to replace workers who leave their occupations.

The Rogue Valley is expected to grow 14% or 17,177 jobs, between 2020 and 2030. The total number of replacement openings is projected to be 20,810. These replacement openings are due to workers who retire, leave the labor force for other reasons or make a major occupational change, with the remaining openings due to new or expanding businesses.

The largest gains of employment are predicted to be in food preparation and serving related occupations adding 2,744 jobs, a 25% increase. Building and grounds cleaning and maintenance occupations are expected to grow by 23% or 1,043 jobs. Arts, design, entertainment, sports, and media is projected to add 397 jobs, a 22% increase.

Beyond the openings in the food preparation and serving related category, the largest numbers of total openings in the next 10 years can be found in office and administrative support (17,820 jobs), sales and related occupations (17,627 jobs), and transportation and material moving (13,609 jobs).
