The City of Portland population grew by 11 percent from 2010 to 2017. This pace of population growth is faster than most of the eight next largest cities in the Portland region, except for Hillsboro and Oregon City. The fastest growing major U.S. city so far this decade is Seattle at 19 percent, with Austin close behind at 18 percent.
In 2010, the City of Portland was the 29th largest U.S. city. Today, Portland has moved up the rankings to become the 26th largest U.S. city. If those growth trends continue, Portland will be the 24th largest U.S. city by the middle of the next decade.
